design challenges: Tonic Software, Inc., as a fledgling Internet start-up in early 2000, commissioned Halley's Design to develop an illustrative company logo using a generic tonic bottle as a base symbol. It took several conversations, and examples of competitor's logos, to convince them that a simpler, symbolic approach would have more longevity and application.
Honoring their desire to convey Tonic as an "elixir for your web applications management needs," Halley's Design used another readily-identifiable symbol — a red cross — within a strong typographic design. This logo served the company for two years, afterwhich, it (and the company) evolved into a whole different enterprise. As of January 5, 2005, Tonic Software, Inc. was acquired by Altiris, Inc.
